UCOL Transfer Learning Community proposes to facilitate the academic transition and social engagement of new Transfer Students to UNC Charlotte.  This is an annual residential learning community designed to help reduce stressors in the transfer experience (Transfer Shock).

Learning Community Goals:

  • Improve first semester academic performance of UCOL transfer students
  • Increase students sense of connection and bonding to the University and campus support programs
  • Increase successful transition to their intended major

During the second semester students will cultivate leadership development skills and abilities, in efforts to becoming accomplished leaders within our campus community and in a global society.

This training will result in leaders for the Transfer Peer Mentoring program (M.I.N.E.R. - (Mentors Improving Niners through Engagement & Resources).  The Transfer Peer Mentor program will be designed to engage new transfer students and connect them with peer leaders who previously transferred to UNC Charlotte.  M.I.N.E.R.s will welcome them to UNC Charlotte, answer frequently asked transition questions, assist new students in getting connected and involved on campus, and will attempt to develop interpersonal relationships with new students during their first transition semester.

LC Connections and Campus Involvement:

Transfers will participate in activities and events will develop a sense of campus engagement, professional development and academic & cultural awareness.

Venture Team-building program, International Festival, Career Expos, Campus Speakers Series, Sporting and Student Organization events.  These events will support their development in several areas that extend beyond the classroom.
